In Space, No One Can Hear You Sing

by Rich Bragg, Jesse Morris, Philip Dasler

  1. Singers from each team are asked to choose from a list of songs and then asked to sing a 1-2 minute clip of that song via karaoke. When they start to sing, their face changes to an animal or character using the magic of augmented reality. At the end of each performance, two judge scores are given. Neither the mask overlay nor the scores can be seen by the performer, they can only be seen by the rest of the team watching via a live YouTube feed.
  2. The key insight here is that the animal masks in the puzzle correspond to the animal masks and costumes from the first season of the TV show "The Masked Singer", and every song on the list is a song that was performed in that season of the show.
  3. The next insight is that the animals that show up as AR masks DO NOT correspond to the animals of the celebrities that performed those same songs in the show. Instead, a given AR mask always sings the songs of exactly one of the show's other celebrities (and always gets the same judge scores, regardless of song), so it is possible to make a chain of masks from AR mask to celebrity singer that forms one continuous loop.
  4. Finally, index using the two judge scores into the celebrity names corresponding to each mask to get two letters for each. Read the letters pairs in the order of the chain created from the previous step, starting with the Hippo and ending with the Peacock, which can be inferred based on making a coherent message, but also mentioned on the live show by the show's host.
  5. The resulting message is BALDWIN SIANO ROCK BAND, which is a clue to the final answer of LOWER THE VEIL.
