Dance Party

by Yar Woo, Daniel Egnor, Nina Hinrichs
Answer: GROOVY

This puzzle has two parts: One set of paper collected from Guest Services, and a second part in a dedicated classroom setup.

Paper Puzzle

The puzzle text says to visit Guest Services and give the promo code SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. When players do, they get these images with instructions to cut out the white regions:

Step 1: Realize that the first six images are album covers (with sections cut out).

Step 2: Realize that the artists of the albums all have a direction in their name: Kanye WEST, Beautiful SOUTH, The Get UP Kids, "LEFT Eye" Lopes, Sheena EASTon, and System of a DOWN.

Step 3: Rotate each of the covers to face the corresponding direction (rotate the Kanye West cover counterclockwise 90 degrees, etc). Overlay them all together on the "letter soup" page (oriented with the hand pointing up) to get this image:

Step 4: Read the letters COVER SONG through the gaps. Submit this as a partial answer, to get the response: "Please bring all your puzzle material and send 2-3 of your most revolutionary dancers who don't suffer from flicker vertigo or photosensitive epilepsy to 66-154."

Party Room

In the Dance Party room, players find a dance mat, a video display and some other stuff. A computer guides them through several mini games.

Level 1 plays "Get Up" by James Brown.

The display shows a crop from one of the album covers. The players must take a step in the corresponding direction. (For example if the crop is from the "Beautiful South" cover, players must step on the Down arrow.) If they make three mistakes, the game starts over from the Level 1 title screen. After completing 15 steps, the game moves to the next level.

Level 2 plays "Go West" by the Village People.

As before, the display shows a crop (but now there's a timer, too). The dancer has to face left ("Go West") and then step relative to that direction. For example, for a crop from "Beautiful South", the dancer must step on the Right arrow. If players wait too long, the timer runs out and the step fails; three failures (wrong step or timeout) starts over at the Level 2 title screen. After 15 successful steps, the game moves to the next level.

Level 3 plays "Bloody Well Right" by Supertramp.

Now, the crops are scrolling (rolling!) across the screen toward a line marker. The dancer has to face right (per the song) and then step relative to that direction. For example, "Beautiful South" indicates a Left step. They have to make the step when the image hits the line. As before, three failures resets to the Level 3 title screen, and 15 successful steps goes to the next level.

The final level plays "You Spin Me Round" by Dead or Alive.

The video screen and party lights turn off once the level starts. A turntable in the room starts spinning (at 33 1/3 RPM), and a strobe light on the turntable turns on (at ~32 Hz). The team needs to place their letter-soup page on the turntable (punching through an X in the very center for the spindle).

On the "letter soup" page, the letters G, R, O, O, V, Y appear in concentric rings (with G on the outside). The spacing is calculated so that these letters appear in the same absolute position every time the strobe flashes, so they appear semi-stationary while the rest of the letter soup spins.

The answer to the puzzle, therefore, is GROOVY!
