Each author has written a book whose title is the opposite of a book written by the author opposite them in the puzzle. There is a unique way that these titles can be fit into the crisscross. Reading the letters in the numbered grid boxes gives “Barthelme|Barbusse”, who wrote two books with opposite titles. The circled author’s book, HELL, is the answer.
