Want help figuring out how to order your techs for the Street? Spend a few weeks in the life of a portfolio manager and you should have a good idea of how to line those up.
First look at the techs you have. I like to think of them as stock portfolios full of promise. You'll notice that each tech can be read as a collection of stock tickers (though they are not wholly composed of such). Although traders are sometimes lazy and may let some of the letters of the symbols overlap, don't worry, there are no half shares; you have a full share of each stock represented. Also don't forget that a portfolio may contain more than one share.
Here's how I calculate portfolio values. In the list below of stock ticker symbols, you'll notice the starting value and the percentage change by month. Just follow the portfolios over three months and figure out the gains. I proudly display my greatest gains at the top and hide the lower ones at the bottom.
Oh! I almost forgot the number one rule of trading: Never forget to collect fees. The fees are charged at the end of the month, following this easy schedule: gains representing more than 30% of the entire portfolio value (before gains) result in a fee of 25% (of the increase), smaller gains are taxed at 15%, but there is a minimum fee of $15 (even if the portfolio lost value, after all the brokerage can't be held responsible for bad markets and investments.) These fees are not paid out of the portfolio (you don't want to sell partial shares to try to cover expenses, you want those shares in the market!) and are not used to figure monthly portfolio values, but should be subtracted at the end when ordering your victories.
